Multi Day Canoe Trips in the Great Glen
Experience a multi day adventure on part of the Great Glen canoe Trail
The Great Glen Canoe Trail is Scotland’s first official canoe trail and stretches from coast to coast using the length of the Caledonian Canal. The Caledonian Canal links up Fort William and Inverness by 4 sections of canal and the 3 big lochs, Loch Lochy, Loch Oich and Loch Ness.
New for 2017, Active Highs are now offering the chance to enjoy a section of the Great Glen Canoe Trail from Laggan Lochs at the end of Loch Lochy to Fort Augustus and Loch Ness over 2 days including a 1 night wild camp.
- Day 1 – Learn some open canoeing skills to help you along your journey, navigate the picturesque “Laggan Avenue” section of the Caledonian Canal & half of Loch Oich before camping at Letterfern where we will relax, eat and recharge for the following day. There is a convenient composting toilet here to make life a little easier and more comfortable.
- Day 2 – After breakfast we will break camp, pack boats and paddle to rest of Loch Oich before lunch where we have the option of either carrying on down the section of canal that links Loch Oich with Loch Ness and Fort Augustus or if skills and conditions allow tackle some moving water and rapids of up to grade 2 of the River Oich that runs in paralell with the canal to Fort Augustus where it emties it’s waters into the head of Loch Ness.
